Newport Beach Through a Local’s Eye: Melissa Rose
City Living Network and Melissa Rose are proud to launch Newport Beach Days, the Sunny Side of Newport.
Newport Beach Days’ Owner and Editor-in-Chief, Melissa Rose, is excited for this next adventure in a town she’s called home for over 20 years.
Raising toddlers to teens, she’s learned every nook and cranny of Newport and feels lucky that she’s able to experience it each day with a fresh set of eyes — whether it’s through school runs with the kids, date nights with her hubby, or girl’s days with the ladies.
Her mission with NBD is to highlight the best (and most fun) aspects of Newport, showcasing the inspiration as well as the beauty.
Here are a few of her current faves around town…
Sunset Walks
There's nothing I love more when I need a moment alone then grabbing one of my kids’ sand buckets for what I call my "Trash & Treasure Walk." Connecting with the ocean, saying a prayer, sand between my toes, while I search for treasures and pick up trash along the way. I come home reset, refreshed, and ready to conquer bedtime.
Crystal Cove
Crystal Cove has a lot to offer and often has me saying, "How awesome that this is in our backyard?!" When family or friends come to town it's so nice to put your name on the waiting list at the famous Beachcomber, let the kids play on the beach, take a walk, and enjoy Newports best beignets. Don't have time for a full morning or afternoon? Grab a shake and a burger at the Shake Shack and enjoy the view.
The Cannery
Whether it be date night with my hubby or moms night out with a group of friends, I love riding bikes to The Cannery for Happy Hour. Delicious sushi for a great price, great atmosphere, and some of the best bartenders in town. Local’s tip: their Balboa Sundae is amazing!
Dory Deli
Need a morning coffee or evening drink? Dory Deli is one of our favorite places to be – and our kids love it as much as we do. Located at the Newport Pier, they have everything you need with their great staff, food, views, and, of course, people watching.
Balboa Island Ferry
The heart of the community, the famous Balboa Island Ferry has been keeping the flow of movement going for more than 100 years. It's just a few minutes on the water but those minutes are worth every second. People young and old enjoy it, however, they need our support right now more than ever as new regulations are threatening to shut it down.
YokiShop
My favorite place to shop for one-of-a-kind apparel is definitely Yokishop, located right off PCH. You'll be greeted with a warm smile by a local legend and super unique cool items – for you and your kids.
Castaways Park
There is something special about walking around Castaways Park that is magical. An easy walk for kids, with beautiful views of Back Bay and the ocean… but most importantly it’s a place honoring the men and women who fought for our freedoms.
Duffy Rides
I love being on the water and what better way than on a Duffy? Before embarking, plan a trip to Trader Joes to make a charcuterie board or order a party platter from El Ranchito and you’ll be spending the next few hours on the harbor in style.
