How to Work From Vacation (Hi From Kauai!)

As I type this, birds are trying to eat my breakfast on Kauai.

That said, one of the best things about running my own digital publication is the freedom to work from anywhere. There’s no need to ask my boss for time off or stick to a rigid schedule. I can work from wherever I am, and right now, that means with these dang tropical birds trying to eat my dang tropical mangos.

While this chaos is currently happening I wanted to share a few tips on how I’m balancing work-life and play-life and bird-life over here…

Work from Vacay

Here on Kauai, I've been able to stay on top of work, no problemo. I scheduled a photoshoot for a “How to Vacay in Kauai” article I’ll write for Laguna Beach Living. I uploaded an article about a Dermatology group in Laguna, took a call with one of LBL’s year-long advertisers (a non-profit that takes in senior and special needs dogs), and created a few reels capturing stunning sunsets and ocean views (typical I know, but HA-WA-II).

GSD (Get Shit Done) from Anywhere

It’s not about working all the time, but rather how to efficiently manage your GSD list. Whether it’s responding to an invite for a Laguna art gallery opening or updating some content on the website, it’s amazing what you can accomplish in random bursts of 15 minutes of focused work throughout the day! It’s all about being able to shift into work mode quickly, handle what’s needed, and then get back to enjoying the views.

The Joy of Automation

Running Laguna Beach Living and the City Living Network isn’t just a job — it’s a lifestyle that lets me enjoy the freedom to travel and work on my own terms. The satisfaction of seeing my businesses thrive on auto-mode while also enjoying these experiences is something I’m deeply grateful for.

What I love so much about running a digital publication is you don’t need to post new content all the time. Publish a great article ONE TIME and — through the power of SEO — people will still be Googling that article for years to come. 

EXAMPLE: Laguna Beach Living’s Best Hikes in Laguna article ranks on the first page of Google and drives daily traffic to our site from all over the world.
