The Value in Domain Names And How to Monetize Them

When the Internet came out my dad bought a bunch of single word domain names…

The investment worked out well for him AND instilled a passion in me for all things WorldWideWeb.

Whether it’s re-selling a valuable domain name as is, or creating a site FOR the domain making it even MORE valuable, the business of domains can be a very profitable venture.

Fast forward 20-ish years and I’ve collected my fair share of domains myself.

I now own over 100 domains in various cities across the country.

My goal with these and my mission for the City Living Network is to team up with talented locals in each city, building them a beautiful city-specific publication and teaching them how to make it successful through CLN’s 9-module custom course.

After the 30 day process I give them 100% ownership so they can maintain, manage, and monetize their publication (and domain!) to their liking.

The value in these publications keeps increasing as the Internet takes over more and more.

For example, the domain name alone for Laguna Beach Living is worth about $2,000, however, with its branding, content, and stats (including 350 articles, 22k IG followers, and a monthly reach of 1.1 million with visits from over 100 countries), LBL is now worth far more than its domain price alone.

LBL is a full-fledged business that has done partnerships with over 100 local and national brands and receives invitations to events like wine tasting trips in the Santa Ynez Valley, 7-day Alaska cruises, Mexico excursions, etc.

Additionally, LBL has a steady stream of advertising revenue coming in each month from local businesses who have partnered with us.

To me, it’s an invaluable business that I get to run to my liking. I have no boss to check in on me, I am a self-motivator who has cultivated connections in my community, and each day I get to do my part in helping small businesses that I love be seen on the Internet.

TOTAL DREAM JOB.
