For the Girlies Who Want Accountability
Because sometimes you need an extra kick in the butt…
Last week I was interviewed for a feature on Her Campus, a Harvard-backed publication and network of female college students representing over 380 college campuses.
It felt like such a full circle moment for me to get to share my experience with budding journalists who are just starting their post-collegiate careers.
In addition to sharing my career path that led me to creating the City Living Network, we also talked about the changes that have been made over the years in the journalism space.
Like it or not, print magazines are on the way out (unless they put Taylor Swift on the cover), and digital publications are the norm now.
Which is good for us, because, as college students know, with all the tools available online it’s a whole lot easier to create amazing content these days — whether you’re a talented journalist/creator or not.
This has made monetizing your passion attainable for so many more people… IF they are being smart and staying ahead of the curve.
(Sure, AI is great and can definitely help write a well-crafted article, but you need an actual person to know if the feel of the newest restaurant or boutique is a *vibe* or not.)
A hyper-localized publication, run by someone REAL and COOL in town is something every city SHOULD and WILL have.
WHICH IS WHY HYPER-LOCAL ONLINE PUBLICATIONS ARE THE FUTURE — AND YOU SHOULDN’T WAIT AROUND FOR SOMEONE TO START ONE BEFORE YOU DO.
Since we have a bunch of new subscribers (hi college girlies!), I wanted to do something special.
Aside from the website design, branding, launch article curation, coaching, and group calls that come in addition to the City Living Network’s 9-module course…
I will also personally come to your town, book a workspace, and spend a full day training you IRL on anything you have questions with.
THINGS WE CAN DO ON OUR IN-PERSON WORK DAY:
-review the course in detail
-go over any website questions you have
-create a lineup of future articles
-schedule a months worth of social posts
-work on the launch party and/or giveaway
-dive into AI generated tools like ChatGPT
-make a list of 100+ businesses to reach out to for advertising
My goal for this In-Person Work Day is to make you the most comfortable you can be prior to launch, with all the one-on-one guidance you need to succeed.
